Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' BRIMFIELD - Elodia A. (Renaud) Lindsay, 75, formerly of Main Street, died Saturday in Lincoln Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester, after a long illness.

She leaves three sons, Bruce G. Lindsay of Holland, A. Dennis Lindsay of Intervale, N.H., and Conrad Lindsay of Brookfield; two brothers, Omer and Philip Renaud, both of Southbridge; a sister, Irene Gamache of Southbridge; seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of Israel and Mederise (LeDuc) Renaud, and lived there many years before moving to Brimfield. Mrs. Lindsay was a graduate of the former Mary E. Wells High School.

She worked at Rathbone Co. in Palmer for 15 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Christopher's Church.

The funeral will be tomorrow from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, Rte. 20. Burial will be in St. George's Cemetery, Paige Hill, Southbridge. Calling hours at the...Read MORE...
