The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. BENTON, Lucy (Nacerino) of Dudley, Mass., formerly of Hartsdale, NY, on Thursday, April 25, 1985. Age 57. Wife of the late Jesse Benton. Beloved mother of 3 sons, Jesse Benton of Dudley, Mass., Paul Benton of Sweetwater, Texas and Christopher Benton of Gloucester; 3 daughters, Donna Lee of Plainsfield, Ct., Leslie and Mary Ellen Benton of Dudley; 2 brothers, Nunzio and Dominick Nacerino of White Plains, N.Y.; 4 sisters, Rose and Josephine Sinistore, and Mary Black, all of White Plains and Nancy Puzzo of New Jersey. Also surviving are 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by THE BARTEL FUNERAL HOME, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley. Interment was held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Webster, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Salem Square, Worcester, Mass. 01608.
