Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

MOODY Virgil W. Moody, Sr., born Oct. 19, 1935 in Midland, Ark., passed on from this life on Sept. 18, 2000 in OKC, OK. He was a dedicated member of the Teamsters Union for 24 years. He was employed by Consolidated Freightways for the past 11 years. Virgil will best be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He will be loved and missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia; 4 children: Virgil Jr., David, Mark and Pam; 3 daughters-in-law, Tina, Jan & Linda and 1 son-in-law, Larry; 7 grandchildren: Chris E., Terrah, Jason, Stephanie, Kimberly, Chris R., Ashley & Lindsay; 1 sister, Vickie; 2 aunts: Willie Ann & Lois and her husband Leonard; 3 great grandchildren, Kaysea, Sidney, and Jordan; 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie. Funeral Services will be 10 AM Saturday, September 23, 2000 at Bill Merritt Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Garden Grove Cemetery near Prague, OK.
