Biography
ON SEPTEMBER 9, 1676, Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve died. Paul Chomedey, elder of Maisonneuve, was a French officer born on February 15, 1612. We owe him the foundation of the city of Montreal. He is sent by the Society of Notre-Dame de Montreal to take possession of their concession in America and chosen to establish a colony on the Island of Montreal. In 1642, he will work on the construction of the fortification and various buildings in Ville-Marie. This city will later become the city of Montreal. Although he was a skilled organizer, he was not well seen by the colonial government and was recalled in France in 1665. He died anonymously in Paris.
