He learned to play during his time in the army when recuperating from an illness that led to an honorable dischardge during wartime. That time gave him the skills that he needed to play prfessionally for life. He eventually retired and moved to FL with his wife, Mary Pusateri Derosier and daughter Connie Derosier Carter and lived out his days.
