Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, was a prominent African American leader and a key figure in the civil rights movement. His life was marked by significant transformations, from a troubled youth to a charismatic spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, and ultimately to a more inclusive and universal approach to human rights.
Malcolm's early life was challenging. His family faced racial violence, and his father, a Baptist minister and an active supporter of Marcus Garvey's Back-to-Africa movement, was killed when Malcolm was just six years old. After his father's death, Malcolm's family struggled, and his mother, Louise Little, suffered a mental breakdown. The family was eventually separated, and Malcolm spent his childhood in and out of foster homes and juvenile detention centers.
