Rev. John was an immigrant, arriving by 1713.





His father was also John and his grandfather, James, was court jeweler to King James V of Scotland (1512-1542). He was later a Jacobite and hanged for his support of Mary, Queen of Scots.
This Rev. John left Scotland for Ireland and, then came to America alone, settled on land that is now Boston, and tried to return to Ireland to retrieve his family. Either died here, en route to Ireland, or when he arrived. His son John would later be widowed and emigrated to America in 1790.
