1953 - On July 27, 1953, the Korean War ended with the signing of an armistice agreement at Panmunjom. The agreement established the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) near the 38th parallel, effectively maintaining the pre-war boundary and creating a buffer zone between the two Koreas.

1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. LENOX, BERKSHIRE Co., MA - Mr. Edward J. Tobin, ( 57y ) d: March 04, 2006 - of Memorial Drive, Chicopee, formerly of Lenox, died Saturday at home. Born in Pittsfield on Oct 28, 1948, son of Edward P. and Margaret Bond Tobin, he attended Lenox schools and was a 1967 graduate of Lenox High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard for several years. Mr. Tobin had worked for the past 10 years in the produce department at Stop & Shop in Chicopee. Before that, he worked for 18 years at the former Valley Graphics in Holyoke. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, he was employed by the Lenox Highway Department. He enjoyed woodworking and remodeling his home. He leaves a brother, Robert L. Tobin of Pittsfield. Mr. Tobin also leaves his nephews, Eric R. and Brian J. Tobin, both of San Diego.
