While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Beloved husband of Deanna Pacaud (nee Charron). Loving father of Audrey (Denis Chaperon) of Sudbury, Trevor of Basin Mines and Kerry Anne (Dan St. Amour) of Sturgeon Falls. Cherished Pa and Papa of Brent (Laci) and Candice Lee (Scott) of Sudbury. Dear great-grandfather of Hayden and Brantley. Dear brother of Jean Poleman (Len) both predeceased and Elaine (Gerry Poisson) of Sturgeon Falls. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Howard was born in Deux Rivieres to Joseph and Marion (Head) Pacaud. In his youth he lived in various communities in the North, settling in Wahnapitae in 1952. He married Deanna on July 25, 1959 in Wahnapitae. He worked for INCO for 32 and 1/ 2 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
Memorial Mass in Notre Dame de la Rivière Church, Wahnapitae Saturday, April 6th, 2013 at 11a.m.
