1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. 1945 - The atomic bomb is invented (J. Robert Oppenheimer, et al., United States)

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. BLESSING. Wanda M. (Suchocki) Blessing, of Hartford, died Tuesday (June 7, 1988) at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was born In South-wick, Mass., and had lived In Hartford 50 years. She was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church and its Ladies Guild. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, 9 a.m., directly in Ss. Cyril 8, Methodius Church, Hartford. Interment will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery. The Talar-ski-Maple Hill Chapels, 380 Maple ; Ave., Hartford, has charge of ar-rangements. There are no calling hours.
