married
Jacques Fournier
-- Date: 14 May 1657 Place:
Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada
MARRIAGE: MARGUERITE WOULD HAVE BEEN AE AB.12/14 WHEN SHE MARRIED JACQUES FOURNIER IN 1657 AND AE AB.15/16 WHEN THE MARRIAGE WAS ANNULLED IN 1659. NOTE THAT IN EARLY NEW FRANCE IT WAS NOT UNHEARD OF FOR GIRLS TO MARRY VERY YOUNG (IN ORDER TO BE CARED FOR IN EXCHANGE FOR THEIR LABOR) AND NOT CONSUMATE THE MARRIAGE UNTIL OF AGE. IN THIS CASE, MARGUERITE SEEMS TO HAVE "OPTED OUT" OF THE MARRIAGE, AS IT WAS ANNULLED FOR "NON-CONSUMMATION". She married a third time, in 1683, to Francois Renou de la Chapelle then a fourth time, in 1692 to Robert Groston de Saint-Ange. She had children until the age of fifty-seven." Thomas J. Laforest Our French-Canadian Ancestors : Volume VII, Page 42 NOTE: I think the 4th marriage mentioned above is an error. I am pretty sure that the Marguerite Crevier who married Robert Groston was the daughter of Nicolas (Sieur de Bellerive) Crevier and Louise Lecoutre. |
