She is the daughter of Jacobie Hartel and Marie Margerie. "Returning to Canada about 1656, young Doctor Pinard exhibited all the competence of a master surgeon. From his marriage contract, written up by Severin Ameau on 11 June 1657, we learn that his parents were dead by this date. His future bride, Marie-Madeleine Hertel, was the daughter of the late Jacques Hertel and of Marie Marguerite. She was not quite twelve years old - it is probably this fact which explains why Louis had to wait until 29 October 1658 to be married in the chapel at Trois-Rivieres." Thomas J.
