1677 "THE SECOND (FRESCHET WHO CAME TO NEW FRANCE) WAS OUR ANCESTOR FRANCOIS FRESCHET WHO ARRIVED IN 1677. HE WAS FROM SAINT-MARTIN DE RE, DIOCESE OF LA ROCHELLE, AUNIS. HIS FIRST WIFE WAS ANNE LEREAU HIS SECOND WAS SUZANNE METAYER. HE WAS A MILITIA CAPTAIN, SHIPS CARPENTER AND EXPLORER...FRANCOIS FRECHETTE, BORN ABOUT 1656, WAS ORIGINALLY FROM ILE DE RE, ABOUT 18 KILOMETERS FROM LA ROCHELLE, IN AUNIS, THE PRESENT DAY CHARENTE-MARITIME. HIS NATIVE TOWN OF SAINT-MARTIN-DE-RE, THE CAPITAL ONCE A POWERFUL MILITARY SITE, STILL WAS IN FRANCOIS TIME, A SEAPORT FOR LARGE SAILING SHIPS FROM THE NORTH COMING TO LOAD A CARGO OF SALT AND/OR WINE, AND THE HOME PORT OF SCHOONERS LOADED WITH SPICES FROM THE ANTILLES." THOMAS J. LAFOREST OUR FRENCH-CANADIAN ANCESTORS : VOLUME X, PAGES 109-110 |

1696 "THE FRECHETTES LIVED AT QUEBEC UNTIL 6 JANUARY 1696, THE DAY ON WHICH THEY GAVE TWO SONS TO THE SEMINARY OF QUEBEC. DURING THE NEXT SUMMER, MADAME FRECHETTE AND THE CHILDREN WENT TO SAINT-NICOLAS TO THE COUTARD HOME WHERE SUZANNE JAROUSSEL WAS GETTING ALONG IN YEARS. WE KNOW FROM THE RECORDS OF THE SOVEREIGN COUNCIL THAT THIS MOTHER OF ANNE LEREAU DIED BEFORE JULY 1700... AS FOR FRANCOIS, HE COULD HAVE CONTINUED TO LIVE AT QUEBEC IN ORDER TO EARN A LIVING FOR HIS FAMILY...FINALLY, THE FRECHETTE FAMILY IS FOUND REUNITED AT SAINT-NICOLAS IN THE SEIGNEURIE OF LAUZON, ACCORDING TO AN ACT NOTARIZED ON 6 OCTOBER 1703" THOMAS J.
