PUTNAM -- Florence C. (Collette) Houle, 76, of 43 South Prospect St., a devoted volunteer in her community, died Thursday, Nov. 2, in St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford, after an illness.
Her husband, Joseph R. Houle, died in 1984. She leaves two sons, Gerard L. Houle of Woodstock Valley and Robert P. Houle of Hartford; a sister, Jeannette Korch of Putnam; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Alfred and Raymond Collette, and a sister, Rosilda Bazinet, predeceased her. She was born in Putnam, daughter of Hector and Dora (Bonosconi) Collette. She graduated from St. Mary's School and from Putnam High School, and was the first person to graduate from Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson, Conn, earning an associate's degree.

Mrs. Houle was a homemaker. Many years ago, she worked at the former Putnam Furniture Store.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church of the Visitation. She was a member of St. Mary's Circle, Daughters of Isabella, and the Aspinock Historical Society. Mrs. Houle served on the Board of Directors of the former Putnam Visiting Nurses Association for many years. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 25 years, and a volunteer Den Mother for Cub Pack 22. She also served on the board that organized the Community Health and Home Care Agency, and was an election worker for Putnam.

The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 6, from Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School, 23 Marshall St., Putnam, CT 06260; or to the Aspinock Historical Society, 208 School St., Putnam, CT 06260.
