Willard, was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on July 28, 1888. He was the son of George Wilhelm Feige and Charlotte M. Salisbury. Willard spent his early childhood in Pittsfield, attending the Bradford Street School, and the Franklin Street School. Around age 12, he moved to Webster, Massachusetts with his parents. He married there, at age 19. His wife was Anna Korch, the daughter of Slovakian immigrants Andro (Andrew) Kovalcik and Albeta (Elizabeth) Tomko. Anna was born July 5, 1891 in East Lyme, Connecticut. By 1900, the family had moved to Thompson, Connecticut. At the time of their marriage, Anna, age 17, worked in a mill and Willard was an electrician. The young couple made their home in Thompson, Connecticut, just over the Massachusetts border. Willard worked in Webster, Massachusetts, as an electrician for his cousin Charles W. Bergmann, who owned a shop on Main Street. Around 1916, Willard, Anna and children moved to Webster. Sometime during the 1920s, Willard suffered a stroke and was unable to perform electrical work with the same level of ability he had prior to the stroke. His daughter, Evelyn, would often go with her dad to help with the electrical work.

 1898 - Book
Cliff Feige has a book that was owned by Willard. It is entitled "Gartenlaube Kalender 1898". It is written in German. Author is Leipzig, Ernst Keil's Nachfolger. It has 206 pages. Inside the book, there is writing in pencil which states "This Book Belongs to Willard Feige". This indicates that Willard probably knew German. His father probably taught it to him. His mother most likely would not have known German. The school Willard attended in Auburn, NY, probably didn't teach German.

Willard Feige Ends Life with Illuminating Gas at Chase Avenue Home

Found in Locked Room with Gas Tube in Mouth by Daughter - Physician and Police Work for Over an Hour with Pulmoter in Effort to Revive Him -- Despondency Over Poor Health Believed to be Cause of Act--Leaves Wife and Seven Children

Despondency over ill health is believed to have been the cause of the suicide of Willard Feige, 38? year old, who was found at noon today in his home on Chase Avenue with open gas jets pouring deadly fumes into a closed room.

Feige had evidently made careful preparations for ending his life, and had closed all the doors and sealed the windows to prevent the escape of gas. He then opened the gas jets and waited for the end.

The tragedy was discovered by a daughter, who came home and smelled gas, which she finally traced to a front room. The room was closed and locked and it was only after aid was summoned that entrance was effected.

Chief James Hetherman, Officers John C. Templeman and John Kloss assisted Dr. Joseph N. Roy to revive the man, but after an hour's work, it was realized that their efforts were of no avail.

When the room had been cleared of gas sufficiently to allow the police and doctor to enter, Feige was discovered with a gas tube in his mouth and there was every indication to point to carefully laid plans for suicide.

Relatives stated that he had not been in good health, and had returned from a hospital in Worcester a few months ago. He was apparently discouraged by his failure to return to usual health.

For more than an hour the pulimoter was used by police under the direction of Dr. Roy, with no results.

Feige is survived by a wife and seven children. He has always been employed as an electrician.

Willard was my Grandmother''s father. My Grandmother absolutely adored him. She told many stories about getting up early in the morning to take the train from Webster to Worcester with him. He was an electrician and she used to help him with his work. My Grandmother knew a lot about wiring! She had a special relationship with her father and treasured the memories of the time she spent with him.
